Ever heard of ‘tyrosemiophilia’?
Tyrosemiophilia is the hobby of collecting cheese labels (étiquettes, in French). We hope to share this passion by showcasing examples of the more than 200,000 label designs from the world’s largest collection. These small pieces of paper may seem anecdotal, yet, they are full of history.
They were the first colored labels intended to be discarded immediately. Their illustrations have always been a topic of conversation in French families. In this exhibition, you will discover a small hidden part of France’s heritage, which includes many labels that have since vanished.
All labels present in this exhibit are from a private collection belonging to Mr. Besnier, the founder of Lactalis – the largest International cheese producer in the world. To see more, visit Lactopole in Laval, France.
